Job summary

National Grid is recruiting an Asset Engineering Manager - HV Switchgear to lead the asset lifecycle strategy for the switchgear asset fleet, ensuring the transmission network remains safe and reliable. You’ll guide a team of asset specialists, developing policies, specifications and intervention plans that maximise whole-life value.

You’ll influence investment decisions, drive continuous improvement, and coordinate with engineering, operations, and regulators to deliver future-ready asset

Qualifications

• Experience in asset engineering, asset management or asset strategy within the electricity sector.
• Strong knowledge of high-voltage network assets and switchgear asset management.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of asset engineering specialists, fostering safety and high performance.
• Develop and maintain asset policies, technical specifications and intervention strategies.
• Define and deliver asset class strategies to inform investment decisions and long-term plans.
• Oversee type registration activities and manage technical derogations as needed.
• Lead asset health reviews and drive risk-based decision making across the fleet.
• Sponsor efficient build and non-build solutions aligned with policy and asset objectives.
• Assist in developing standardised engineering solutions for interventions across the network.
• Own asset data, drive data quality, and support digital asset management initiatives.
• Provide strategic technical guidance, financial oversight and risk management across the portfolio.
• Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders including regulators and industry partners.
• Monitor emerging technologies and opportunities to improve asset performance.
