Job summary

National Grid is seeking a Substation Project Engineer based in London with hybrid working (home, office, site) to lead a portfolio of substation projects. You will deliver asset replacements and new builds, including HV transformer and shunt reactor work, while maintaining safety, quality, time, and cost controls.

You will manage NEC-based contracts, engage stakeholders, oversee contractors, and uphold CDM regulations. A driving licence and willingness to travel within the region are essential.

Qualifications

• Strong project management, stakeholder engagement and contractor management skills.
• Knowledge of NEC contracts and CDM Regulations.
• Understanding of health, safety, and environmental legislation.
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a portfolio of asset replacement and new build projects.
• Deliver HV transformer and shunt reactor installations, cable replacements, and protection upgrades.
• Oversee delivery teams and external contractors, ensuring safety and quality.
• Ensure CDM compliance and regulatory adherence throughout projects.
• Manage project financials, forecasting and reporting across the lifecycle.
• Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Travel across London region with occasional overnight stays.
