Job summary

SMT is seeking a Field Service Engineer to support the HS2 project across Coventry, Solihull, Warwick, Birmingham and surrounding areas. The role involves diagnostics, servicing and repairs of Volvo construction equipment, with a strong emphasis on customer service and uptime.

You will diagnose faults, perform maintenance, and work closely with customers in a field-based setting. NVQ3 in Plant Maintenance or equivalent is required, along with a valid UK driving licence and willingness to travel

Qualifications

NVQ Level 3 in Plant Maintenance or equivalent.
Proven experience maintaining and repairing heavy construction plant with diesel engines, hydraulics, drivetrains, electrics and diagnostic systems.
Advanced fault-finding and problem-solving, able to work independently in the field.
Strong communication and customer service skills with the ability to build relationships.
Full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel, work overtime, and support customer requirements.

Responsibilities

Carry out diagnostics, servicing, maintenance and repairs on Volvo construction equipment and other machinery.
Identify and resolve mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and engine faults using diagnostic tools.
Act as the primary point of contact for customers, providing updates on status and progress.
Complete all job documentation, inspection reports, timesheets and electronic records in real time.
Maintain high standards of safety, professionalism, housekeeping and site procedures.
