Housing Solutions Officer - Advice & assessment

Location: HD1, Huddersfield

Job Type: Interim, Full-time

Salary: £15.31 per hour

Responsibilities
  • We are seeking a dedicated Housing Solutions Officer to join our team in Huddersfield. This role involves conducting face-to-face housing needs assessments in line with the Housing Act 1996 and council procedures. The position is office-based, requiring flexibility in working hours to ensure all customers are attended to by the end of the day.
  • Conduct face-to-face housing needs assessments at Huddersfield and Dewsbury Library Hubs.
  • Work within the Advice and Assessment Team to prevent homelessness and provide housing solutions to families, couples, and single people over 22.
  • Assess housing needs and identify support needs, collaborating closely with other parts of the service and partner agencies to achieve the best outcomes for customers.
  • Participate in a team duty rota to provide advice and assistance to customers facing the threat of homelessness or who are homeless on the day.
  • Maintain effective case notes and refer cases within the service for the provision of temporary accommodation.
  • Provide written communications to customers and other stakeholders.
  • Offer advice and guidance to other services, both internal and external.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Knowledge of relevant housing legislation and an understanding of housing-related benefits.
  • Experience in delivering a frontline service and managing varying and demanding workloads.
  • Effective negotiation and mediation skills.
  • Ability to engage and communicate sensitively and compassionately with customers and partners in a demanding environment.
  • Proficiency in literacy and numeracy to ensure the production of accurate case notes and clear communications.
  • Experience with various IT systems and software packages. Familiarity with Civica Abritas Housing system is advantageous but not essential as training will be provided.
