Job summary

Niyaa People is recruiting on behalf of a housing association for an experienced Housing Officer to join the team on a temporary basis in Newton Abbot. The role focuses on managing a general needs housing patch and delivering a resident-focused tenancy management service.

You will work on a defined patch across general needs properties, handling tenancy matters, rent arrears, ASB, safeguarding, and providing support to vulnerable residents.

Qualifications

  • Experience with general needs housing patches and tenancy management best practices.
  • Strong knowledge of tenancy legislation and enforcement procedures.
  • Experience dealing with rent arrears, breaches, and safeguarding concerns.
  • Ability to support vulnerable residents and refer to appropriate services.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a general needs housing patch and maintain regular contact with residents.
  • Handle tenancy matters from sign-up through sustainment and enforcement as needed.
  • Address rent arrears, breaches and other tenancy-related issues.
  • Investigate and manage anti-social behaviour and nuisance cases.
  • Carry out tenancy visits, inspections and property checks.
  • Support vulnerable residents and identify referral pathways.
  • Collaborate with income, repairs, ASB, safeguarding and allocations teams.
  • Liaise with local authorities and external partners as required.
  • Take appropriate action to ensure effective tenancy management.
  • Maintain accurate records and progress casework within timescales.
  • Support wider tenancy sustainment and neighbourhood management objectives.

We are currently recruiting on behalf of a well-establishedhousing associationfor an experiencedHousing Officerto join their team on a temporary basis in Newton Abbot.

This is an excellent opportunity for a confident housing professional with experience managing ageneral needs housing patchand providing a high-quality tenancy management service.

The Role:

As a Housing Officer, you will take responsibility for a defined patch of general needs properties, ensuring effective tenancy management and delivering a responsive, resident-focused service.

You will be responsible for:
  • Managing a general needs housing patch and maintaining regular contact with residents.
  • Managing tenancy matters from sign-up through to tenancy sustainment and, where necessary, enforcement.
  • Dealing with rent arrears, tenancy breaches and other tenancy-related issues.
  • Investigating and managing anti-social behaviour and nuisance cases.
  • Carrying out tenancy visits, inspections and property checks.
  • Supporting vulnerable residents and identifying appropriate support or referral pathways.
  • Working closely with internal teams including income, repairs, ASB, safeguarding and allocations.
  • Liaising with local authorities, statutory agencies and external partners where required.
  • Taking appropriate action to ensure properties and tenancies are managed effectively.
  • Maintaining accurate records and ensuring casework is progressed within agreed timescales.
  • Supporting the housing association's wider objectives around tenancy sustainment, resident satisfaction and neighbourhood management.
About You:

We are looking for someone who has previous experience working as aHousing Officer, Neighbourhood Officer, Tenancy Officer or similar role within social housing.

You will ideally have:
  • Experience managing a general needs housing patch.
  • Strong knowledge of tenancy management and housing legislation.
  • Experience dealing with rent arrears and tenancy breaches.
  • Experience managing ASB cases and safeguarding concerns.
  • Good knowledge of tenancy sustainment and supporting vulnerable residents.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • The confidence to manage challenging conversations and take appropriate enforcement action.
  • Excellent organisational and case-management skills.
  • Experience working collaboratively with local authorities and other partner agencies.
  • A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle, as regular travel across the housing patch will be required.
Working Arrangement:

The role is based inNewton Abbotand offers ahybrid working arrangement, combining home working with office attendance, resident visits and other site-based duties.

You will need to be comfortable travelling across the local housing stock and managing your own diary effectively.
