Overview

HLTA – Bristol

We are looking for a dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join an OFSTED Outstanding special school in Bristol. This is a varied and rewarding role, combining 3 days a week within the Intervention & Response Team and 2 days a week as a class-based HLTA.

As part of the Intervention & Response Team, you will provide support in emergency situations, helping to manage and de-escalate challenging behaviours while ensuring pupils feel safe and supported. You will also deliver targeted interventions under the guidance of senior staff, designed to meet the individual needs of pupils with complex learning profiles.

On your class-based days, you will work alongside the teacher to plan and deliver engaging learning opportunities, adapting activities to meet the needs of pupils with severe and profound learning difficulties, Autism, high medical needs, or challenging behaviours. This role requires creativity, resilience, and a reflective approach to support learners to achieve their full potential.

Responsibilities
  • Provide rapid response and support for pupils with complex needs as part of the Intervention & Response Team
  • Deliver bespoke, targeted interventions under the guidance of senior leaders
  • Support teaching, learning, and pupil engagement as a class-based HLTA
  • Use positive behaviour management strategies and reflective practice to engage and inspire pupils
  • Foster independence, social development, and emotional wellbeing
