Job summary

Smiths (Gloucester) Ltd is seeking an experienced Hire Desk Manager to lead the hire desk team across our South-West depots. You will drive fleet utilisation, maximise revenue and deliver outstanding customer service while coordinating with operations and transport colleagues.

The role requires strong commercial acumen, leadership ability and a track record of improving profitability in plant hire. UK driving licence is essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years' experience within the Plant Hire industry.
• Experience managing a Hire Desk team.
• Strong knowledge of plant hire equipment and services.
• Extensive experience of plant hire systems and processes.
• Excellent commercial awareness and financial understanding.
• Proven ability to maximise utilisation and profitability.
• Strong customer relationship management skills.
• Experience managing KPIs and operational performance.
• Strong people management and leadership ability.
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Lead, motivate and develop the Hire Desk Controllers.
• Oversee enquiry to off-hire processes.
• Maintain high levels of customer service.
• Manage fleet availability and utilisation.
• Coordinate equipment movements with transport.
• Drive revenue growth through proactive account management.
• Develop pricing strategies and margins.
• Support recruitment and training of new staff.
• Monitor workload across the Hire Desk team.
• Ensure hire records and documentation are accurate.
