Overview

Job summary: Are you an existing highly specialist (Band 7) Speech and Language Therapist looking for a change, or an experienced senior (Band 6) ready for the next step working with Community Paediatrics? A warm welcome awaits you at Wirral University Teaching Hospital in the Community Paediatric Team, based at St Catherine's Health Centre, Birkenhead.

You will have a Speech and Language degree qualification and be registered with the HCPC and ideally be a member of RCSLT.

Responsibilities

This post is to assess, develop and deliver highly specialised care to children and families of children referred into Community Paediatrics on the Neuro Development pathway, working alongside a team of clinicians. Within the team we will provide:

  • A strong support network for both clinical work and wellbeing within a well established and experienced team
  • Opportunities to learn from highly experienced MDT team members
  • Both clinical and managerial supervision on a regular basis
  • Annual appraisals
  • Opportunities to access internal and external training if relevant to your role

The successful applicant will be highly motivated to work with children and their families/carers and have excellent communication, organisational and prioritisation skills and be an enthusiastic team member.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • BSc or equivalent qualification recognised by HCPC in Speech and Language Therapy
  • HCPC registration
  • Post-graduate experience in a relevant area at a senior level
  • Demonstrated expertise in a wide range of assessment and treatment skills, with experience in highly complex caseload management
  • Ability to work autonomously, manage own caseload, and use clinical reasoning to identify problems and plan treatment
  • Experience in audit and reviewing treatment/services
  • Ability to work as a team member and mentor/teach others

Desirable

  • Member of the Royal College Of Speech and Language Therapists
  • Active CPD portfolio demonstrating development of specialist clinical skills
Knowledge and Skills

  • Basic computer skills
  • Theoretical knowledge underpinning practice
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Analytical, problem-solving and clinical reasoning skills

Desirable

  • Knowledge of hospital computer systems
  • Ability to communicate in difficult circumstances with empathy
