The Role

As the Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA), you will play a pivotal role in supporting the teacher and pupils throughout the school day, including delivering lessons, providing targeted interventions, and helping to raise the academic standards of students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and deliver lessons to small groups or whole classes, under the direction of the class teacher
  • Provide targeted support to individual students, especially those with additional needs
  • Support the planning, preparation, and assessment of lessons
  • Help implement interventions for students who require additional support
  • Assist in maintaining a positive, focused, and inclusive classroom environment
  • Support the development of students' academic, social, and emotional needs
  • Monitor and track pupil progress in collaboration with the class teacher
What We're Looking For
Essential
  • Level 4 or above HLTA qualification (or equivalent)
  • Proven experience as a Teaching Assistant in a primary school setting, ideally as an HLTA
  • Strong understanding of the primary curriculum
  • Ability to work independently and lead groups of students
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students and staff
Desirable
  • Experience working with students with additional learning needs
  • Knowledge of specific interventions (e.g., phonics, literacy support)
  • An understanding of safeguarding practices and policies
