Job description

We're on the lookout for a Health and Safety Officer to join our well-established client in Coalville on a full‑time, permanent basis.

Salary: £35,000 - £40,000 per annum (depending on experience)

Hours: Full and part time applications accepted.

The Role

As a Health and Safety Officer, you will lead the HSE compliance across local sites. This role is instrumental in ensuring legal compliance and fostering a positive safety culture.

Key Responsibilities
  • Keep abreast with all applicable HSE legislation. Understand all applicable HSE reporting requirements and ensure compliance.
  • Liaise with EH&S related bodies including fire service and HSE.
  • Conduct regular assessments of HSE legal compliance and advise Senior Management Team (SMT) of gaps and enhancements required, including relevant forthcoming legislative changes.
  • Ensure appropriate operating permits or audits, customer audits are in place and completed in a timely manner.
  • Assess site and activities risks. Ensure assessments are documented, controlled and reviewed with necessary actions taken to reduce risk.
  • Complete Safety Data Sheet (SDS) reviews and updates and associated risk assessments as required.
  • Contribute to the development of work instructions and procedures in conjunction with function managers so that work practices reflect health, safety and quality best practice.
  • Ensure accidents, incidents and near misses are recorded.
  • Manage investigation and actions to reduce business risk, both following incidents and by the prevention of incidents through the monitoring and action of unsafe conditions.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of all relevant accreditation requirements.
  • Work towards obtaining ISO 45001 accreditation standard and development of the safety management system, by implementing any changes that are required. This includes arranging suitable internal and external audits.
  • Manage and develop reporting systems for monitoring and compliance with applicable SHE regulations – includes PUWER, LOLER, REACH, SDS transmission to customers, packaging regulations.
Essential Requirements
  • NEBOSH or other safety qualified professional
  • Experienced in auditing.
  • Minimum of two years working in a similar engineering environment.
  • Sound understanding of regulated systems such as ISO 9000, 14000, 45000.
  • Good analytical and problem‑solving skills
  • Excellent organisation and prioritisation skills
  • Experience communicating accurately and professionally with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience of developing reports and presentations
  • Able to use office programs with Excel intermediate skills level.
  • Experience of working with commercial parts of a business.
Desirable Requirements
  • A detailed understanding of relevant industry regulations
  • Understanding of change management
  • Experience in hazardous chemicals environment
