Live-out Head Housekeeper Job

A well-established private household is seeking an experienced, organised, and proactive Head Housekeeper to oversee the smooth day-to-day running of a large private residence. This is a hands‑on role, ideal for a confident individual who takes pride in maintaining exceptionally high standards and enjoys managing a small team within a professional household environment.

You will be responsible for the overall presentation, cleanliness, and organisation of the property, as well as supervising and supporting the housekeeping team. While the role requires a high level of autonomy, you will work closely with other household staff and report directly to the Estate Director.

This position would suit someone with strong leadership skills, excellent attention to detail, and a calm, solutions‑focused approach. Somoe who has worked in 5 or 6 star hotels would be a fantastic match.

Duties to include:
  • Overseeing all housekeeping operations to ensure the property is maintained to the highest standards
  • Hands‑on cleaning and organisation, alongside supervising daily tasks
  • Creating and implementing cleaning schedules and procedures
  • Managing deep cleaning projects and routine maintenance planning
  • Supervising, training, and supporting housekeeping staff
  • Allocating workloads effectively and conducting quarterly appraisals
  • Managing household supplies, stock control, and ordering essentials
  • Ensuring all equipment is maintained and in good working order
  • Liaising with other departments and external contractors as requiredEnsuring full compliance with health and safety standards
  • Maintaining discretion and professionalism at all times

The ideal candidate will have previous experience working as a Head Housekeeper or Senior Housekeeper within a private household or estate, with strong organisational and leadership skills and excellent references.

Working hours:

Monday to Friday, 8.00am – 4.00pm with flexibility when the family is in residence.

Working pattern:

Five days per week with two consecutive days off. Additional hours may be required during periods when the principals are in residence, with time off given in lieu.

Annual leave:

28 days per year, excluding public holidays, increasing by one day per year of service up to a maximum of 33 days.
