Job summary

Wallace Hind Selection in Bedford is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to drive mechanical design from concept through to production, with hands-on involvement on the shop floor and in testing. You will work on diverse projects, from existing machinery modifications to new product development, in a small, supportive team.

You should bring experience delivering end-to-end mechanical design, proficiency with SolidWorks, and a willingness to broaden skills across electrical and software domains.

Qualifications

• Experienced Mechanical Design Engineer with a likely HND or B.ENG in Mechanical Engineering.
• Ability to lead design projects from concept through to completion.
• Competent using SolidWorks as primary 3D modelling tool (or similar) and willing to learn.
• Experience with DfMA and working closely with production/tests.
• Experience with BOMs and materials selection (stainless steel, aluminium, mild steel).

Responsibilities

• Detailed mechanical design of new machines from cradle to grave.
• Re-engineer existing machinery to enhance design, manufacturing efficiency, durability, cost down, GD&T and weights and balance.
• Prototype testing.
• Internal stakeholder management with production and sales.
