Job summary

A leading environmental consultancy is seeking a Geotechnical Technician to join their team in Washington, Tyne & Wear. The role involves performing various physical tests on soil, rock, and aggregate samples to ensure high safety and quality standards. Candidates are expected to have laboratory experience and a minimum of 5 GCSEs including English, Maths, and Science. Ian Farmer Associates , a member of RSK Group Ltd , are looking for a Geotechnical Technician to join their team in Washington, Tyne & Wear, UK. This is afull-time, permanentposition.Suitable candidates will need to be able to demonstrate previous laboratory experience in this field.

Key roles and responsibilities
  • Performing a variety of physical tests on soil, rock and aggregate samples to the highest level of safety and quality standards.
  • Develop an understanding of the test methods and why samples are tested.
  • Assisting in the calibration and maintenance of all technical equipment.
  • Maintaining a clean and orderly laboratory environment.
  • Ensuring the quality of work produced is to high standards and tested in a timely manner.
  • Sample receipt, storage and disposal.
Required experience
  • 5+ GCSEs including English, Maths and Science.
  • Previous experience in a geotechnical or materials testing lab.
  • Good numeracy and literacy : able to write clearly and accurately.
  • A good eye for detail, diligent in following procedures.
  • Good IT skills, especially the use of MS Excel.

There will be lots of manual handling involved in the role and will require moving heavy items on a frequent basis.
