Job summary

WSP in the UK & Ireland seeks a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join our Hertford team. You will act as technical lead across complex geotechnical and multidisciplinary projects, guiding ground models, analyses and design while managing delivery and client relationships.

You will mentor engineers, support bid submissions and promote innovation, sustainability and digital delivery across projects in a collaborative, integrated environment.

Qualifications

• Strong background in geotechnical engineering and ground risk management.
• Experience in geotechnical design, analysis and interpretation across diverse projects.
• Ability to lead technical delivery and manage project risks.
• Strong commercial awareness with project management and fee control.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management with clients and multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience mentoring and developing junior team members; promotion of technical excellence.

Responsibilities

• Act as technical lead on complex geotechnical and multidisciplinary projects; provide specialist advice and oversight.
• Lead development of ground models, geotechnical assessments, design solutions and deliverables.
• Undertake and review advanced geotechnical analyses for foundations, earthworks, slopes, etc.
• Manage project delivery, including programme, commercial performance, QA and risk.
• Lead client relationships and support business development to grow accounts.
• Direct planning and management of ground investigations and data interpretation for design and construction.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship within the team.
• Support bidding and tender submissions with methodologies and proposals.
