Job summary

WSP in Southampton is seeking a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to lead complex projects, develop ground models and oversee geotechnical design across sectors.

You will mentor engineers, manage investigations, support business development and champion innovative, sustainable delivery within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team. The role offers hybrid working across UK offices, progression toward Chartership and exposure to major infrastructure schemes.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience delivering complex geotechnical projects.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience leading ground investigation programmes and data interpretation.

Responsibilities

• Act as technical lead on complex geotechnical projects.
• Develop ground models, geotechnical assessments, design solutions and deliverables.
• Undertake and review advanced geotechnical analyses for foundations and earthworks.
• Manage project delivery including programme, commercial performance, QA and risk.
• Lead client relationships and support business development.
• Plan and manage ground investigations and interpret data for design.
• Provide mentorship to engineers and geological colleagues.
• Support bidding, tender submissions, and resource planning.
• Champion innovation, sustainability and digital delivery across teams.
• Collaborate across disciplines for major infrastructure projects.
