Job summary

Sainsbury's is seeking a General Merchandise Manager to lead and optimise our non-food assortment, ensuring top‑notch presentation and customer experience across the store. You will drive daily operations from shop floor to warehouse, while managing performance, disciplinaries and payroll with confidence.

Ideal candidates will have leadership experience in high‑volume retail, a strong focus on customer service, and a track record of hitting KPIs across sales, stock and customer engagement.

Qualifications

• Track record of delivering exceptional customer experiences and coaching teams to raise the bar.
• Experience leading teams in a dynamic, customer‑facing environment—retail, food service or hospitality.
• Leadership in a high‑volume, fast‑paced operational setting—oversight of daily operations.
• Proven success delivering against KPIs such as sales, stock availability and customer satisfaction.
• Experience managing complex people matters, including performance, absence and ER cases.

Responsibilities

• Take responsibility for the management of all non‑food products and ensure they are presented attractively to delight customers.
• Ensure your area runs smoothly from shop floor to warehouse on a daily basis.
• Lead people management, including performance, disciplinaries and scheduling/pay accuracy.
• Occasionally assume overall store responsibility, guiding colleagues to deliver for customers.
