Job summary

A leading environmental services firm in the UK is seeking an experienced Environmental Health Officer to conduct food hygiene inspections across various categories. The ideal candidate will have a degree in Environmental Health, be EHRB registered, and possess strong compliance and inspection skills. Flexible working arrangements are offered, allowing for both full and part-time work. Compensation is competitive at £50+ per hour or £55-£65 per inspection.

Qualifications

  • Experience within a Local Authority conducting Food Inspections.
  • Proven track record of ensuring compliance and service quality.
  • Effective communication skills for liaising with food businesses.

About the role

Environmental Health Officer (Food)

Location - Sussex

Contract length – 6 months (with the view to extend)

Rate - £50+ per hour or £55-£65 per inspection. (Potentially outside of IR35)

Working arrangements – Full or part time work. Per inspection work will also be considered

My client requires an experienced Food Safety Officer/Environmental Health Officer to undertake a range of inspections, consisting of category C to E, as well as some unrated premises.

Your responsibilities
  • Carrying out Category C to E Food Hygiene inspections
  • Review casework, notices, and enforcement actions to ensure consistency, legal compliance, and service quality.
  • Liaising with food businesses to ensure compliance and provide guidance
  • Handling reactive complaint work
  • It is essential that you have experience within a Local Authority and a proven track record of conducting Food Inspections.
Qualifications
  • A degree/diploma in Environmental Health
  • EHRB Registered/Chartered
  • Higher Certificate in Food Safety/Food Control
