A leading technology recruitment agency is looking for an experienced Firmware Project Manager based in the UK. You will be instrumental in executing the firmware development cycle, leading integration efforts, and ensuring product requirements are met. Ideal candidates should possess over 5 years of experience in embedded systems and firmware project management, with skills in C, C++, Python, or Bash. This role offers competitive compensation and remote working flexibility.
My client is building a consumer hardware platform that combines custom electronics, embedded software, its own operating system and system applications to deliver a unique interactive experience. The product is already live and continues to evolve across new hardware revisions and firmware platforms.
We are hiring a Firmware Project Manager with a strong embedded background and hands on experience across firmware development, hardware interface testing and new platform bring up. This role sits at the centre of firmware execution, coordinating work from early hardware prototypes through validation, stable releases and production readiness.
You will work closely with firmware, hardware, QA, mobile and backend teams, structuring complex engineering work and driving predictable delivery while staying close to the technical details.
You will own execution of the firmware development cycle, breaking product requirements into actionable firmware tasks, planning sprints, estimating work and tracking progress across teams. You will coordinate development of low level drivers, system modules, connectivity and device logic, ensuring alignment with requirements and delivery timelines.
You will lead firmware and hardware integration, coordinating power states, protocols, timing, calibration and thresholds. You will work with hardware and QA to identify root causes of integration issues and ensure stable system behaviour across hardware revisions.
You will lead bring up and validation for new boards and device revisions, including bootloaders, clocks, power rails and drivers. You will establish diagnostics, debug tooling and logging for early stage testing, and coordinate validation across EVT, DVT and PVT phases.
You will translate product requirements into clear technical specifications for firmware engineers, maintain internal documentation and diagrams, and facilitate communication across firmware, hardware, QA, backend and product teams. You will highlight risks, blockers and dependencies early.
You will define firmware quality gates, manage builds and release notes, coordinate regression testing and drive post release improvements.
You have 5 or more years of experience in embedded systems, firmware engineering leadership, QA leadership or technical project management. You have experience with hardware bring up, low level debugging and manufacturing phases such as EVT, DVT and PVT. You understand embedded system constraints around memory, power and timing, and can translate product level requirements into executable technical work.
You are structured, calm and methodical, with clear communication across engineering and product teams.
Hands on firmware development experience in C or C++, or scripting in Python or Bash. Experience with consumer electronics, IoT or robotics. Experience building diagnostic or testing frameworks. Startup experience with fast development cycles.
