Financial Crime Analyst

Salary: c. £30,000 per annum

Hours: 35 hours per week

Contract: Permanent

Location: Hybrid (Office: West Bromwich)

You will sit in the Risk Division, in our Second Line of Defence (2LoD) and will carry out analysis and investigation relating to Financial Crime. These will include reviewing alerts, both Investment (Savings) and Mortgages, produced by the Transaction and Fraud Monitoring systems.

The role holder is also charged with contributing to the effective and ongoing implementation of the Society-wide financial crime risk management framework. The role will also include investigating referrals made to the Financial Crime Team by colleagues as well as dealing with Law Enforcement Agencies and Government Departments; both in terms of submitting Suspicious Activity Reports as well as responding to Subject Access Requests.

What the role will look like
  • Maintain a working knowledge of regulations relating to Financial Crime, and to be able to analyse and understand those regulations as well as internal policies and procedures.
  • Investigate suspicious transactions, suspicious activity alerts and referrals, and analyse the information to determine if there is any potentially criminal activity.
  • Ensure that any third party Subject Access Requests (e.g. Production Orders) and suspicious persons or transaction reports are completed within the agreed timescales and to a high standard.
  • Prepare financial crime reports as required. Maintain and file, clear and concise records.
  • Provide a point of contact for Financial Crime related issues and give advice and guidance to colleagues as and when required.
  • Carry out QA on 1st line processes relevant to financial crime.
  • Identify areas of weakness in current procedures and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Assist and liaise with other financial institutions, the Police and other Law Enforcement Agencies on investigations on various matters. These could include the exchange of information as well as making statements on behalf of the Society that could be used in court.
What you will bring to the role
  • Confident and professional individual, highly motivated and be able to work in a team or under own initiative.
  • Ability to interpret laws, regulations and policy provisions are desirable.
  • Current experience of working in financial crime related work is essential, ideally with previous experience within a financial institution or professional services firm.
  • Strong communication skills are essential for this role as the role holder will need to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing for an area that is technical and complex.
  • A willingness to work towards a relevant qualification (if not already held).
  • Previous experience of database mining techniques, and Fraud Detection systems such as SIRA, CIFAS, core banking systems and CRM platforms would be desirable.
  • Mortgage Fraud and On-line transactional fraud experience would be a distinct advantage.
