Job Introduction
We are seeking a Financial Controller responsible for the efficient running of the Accounting Department, leading a team of 3.
The role involves advising the General Manager and Departmental Heads on financial matters and executing group policies related to accounting.
Role Responsibilities
Main Responsibilities
- Report and reconcile daily revenue, prepare management information, and audit daily rates, discounts, voids, and complimentary items, liaising with departmental managers.
- Process purchase orders and invoices, input into Sage using INVU, and code correctly to nominal codes, paying suppliers according to company policy. Handle supplier queries, intercompany charging, and reconciliations.
- Manage payroll processing for weekly and monthly payrolls, including BACS payments and PAYE reconciliation. Report payroll costs, review NMW hours, and prepare P11D at year-end.
- Ensure client invoices are raised promptly, maintain credit control, and handle related queries. Review departmental charges for accuracy.
- Monitor bank balances and cash flow daily, controlling receipts and payments.
- Control assets, including beverage stock, and perform monthly stock reporting with variance analysis and GP%.
- Conduct regular internal audits.
- Ensure all revenue and costs are accurately reported in the nominal ledger.
- Prepare weekly P&L reports and monthly management accounts, liaising with Heads of Departments and supporting P&L analysis and training.
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts monthly.
- Prepare VAT returns, National Statistics, and year-end payroll filings.
- Participate in meetings and training as required.
- Assist in preparing annual budgets, reviewing sales and cost budgets, and presenting to MD and FD.
- Provide ad hoc reports for management.
- Review weekly rosters for cost control.
- Prepare year-end schedules, including fixed asset registers and tax information.
- Attend FC meetings and executive planning meetings.
- Take responsibility for all financial areas in line with company policy.
The Ideal Candidate
Our successful Financial Controller will have:
Qualifications/Experience
Qualified AAT/CIMA/ACCA or similar, with proven experience as a senior financial manager in a 4- or 5-star leisure property, capable of managing accounts from trial balance to statutory accounts.
- Strong leadership, self-motivation, and attention to detail.
- Ability to meet tight deadlines.
- Proactive, hands-on approach to financial matters.
- Experience with large hotel/resort accounting.
Systems Experience
- Accounting and payroll systems.
- Intermediate/advanced Excel skills.
- Property management, EPOS, stock/inventory, FOH, and T&A systems.
(Systems used include Sage 200, Sona, and Hart PMS.)
