Job Title: Finance Manager
Salary: £25.79 per hour
Location: Huddersfield
Type: Contract (Until end of February 2026)
Hours: 08:45am - 17:15pm
Job Responsibilities
- Provide a comprehensive, high-quality financial management service that aligns with statutory, financial, and organisational procedures.
- Lead and manage a team of finance professionals, ensuring effective performance management, development, and support.
- Act as a visible and confident leader, modelling positive behaviours and driving commitment to service goals.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to build strong, productive working relationships.
- Support strategic planning and decision-making processes by delivering clear, concise financial advice and information.
- Lead or contribute to the continuous review and improvement of financial processes, recommending and implementing changes where needed.
- Support senior leadership in financial planning, forecasting, and strategy development.
- Help the organisation respond to changing internal and external financial requirements with agility and innovation.
Key Skills / Experience
- Full membership of a recognised CCAB professional accountancy body (e.g. CIPFA, ACCA, CIMA, ICAEW).
- Demonstrable experience in the application of resource and business planning within a local authority or similarly complex organisation.
- Strong awareness of current issues impacting local government and their financial implications.
- Proven experience of working with and managing complex financial systems in a large organisation.
- Experience in supporting the preparation of budgets, medium-term financial and service plans, including the implementation of effective monitoring mechanisms.
- Ability to provide clear financial advice and motivation to senior managers and finance staff, while effectively prioritising competing workloads.
- Experience of supporting the development of robust business cases for investment and resource allocation.
- Experience in assisting service managers with the identification and management of financial risk.
- Strong background in advising managers and stakeholders on financial issues in a clear and constructive manner.
- Solid understanding and practical knowledge of professional accounting standards.
- Experience in managing the preparation and delivery of annual accounts.
- Proven ability to support the ongoing development and improvement of financial services in a collaborative environment.
