Job summary

Briggs Equipment Ltd. is seeking a Field Service Engineer to service customer sites in Birmingham and surrounding areas. You will diagnose faults, determine work scopes, and liaise with customers on timelines and costs, ensuring safety and compliance with engineering standards.

The role requires a relevant technical qualification and proven field service experience. You will work independently, manage priorities, and contribute to service revenue through effective problem solving and thorough

Qualifications

  • Relevant technical qualification.
  • Experience in a similar field service role.
  • Good understanding of hydraulics, mechanics and electrical principles.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure.
  • Strong workload prioritisation and customer needs awareness.

Responsibilities

  • Attend customer locations to determine work scope and priorities, ensuring safe practices.
  • Liaise with controller and customer on timescales and costs.
  • Identify root cause of breakdown and obtain correct parts, involving Briggs Technical team when needed.
  • Ensure work complies with engineering standards and Briggs/manufacturer specs.
  • Carry out inspections to ensure equipment is safe before handover to customer.
  • Identify further required work and communicate costs to maximise revenue where applicable.
  • Complete all job and service documentation with required signatures.

The Opportunity: Field Service Engineer

Contract: Permanent

Location: Birmingham

The Impact you will have:

  • Attending customer locations to determine the likely scope of the work required, assessing and agreeing with the end user his/her work priorities, ensuring safe working practices are adhered to.
  • Both at outset and as work progresses, liaise with controller and customer on the range of expected work providing clarity and understanding by all parties the likely timescales and associated costs are understood.
  • Identifying the root cause of a breakdown in a timely manner and ensure the correct parts are obtained in the most cost-effective way. Use any available resources to achieve this, including when required the Briggs Technical team
  • Ensuring all work complies with engineering standards and, as relevant, Briggs/manufacturer specification/tolerances.
  • Carrying out inspection/checks on own work as it proceeds and ensuring that the equipment performs satisfactorily and is safe before handing back to the customer.
  • Identifying any further work required on a machine and ensure the customer is made aware of the fact, especially where a cost to the customer is to be incurred. The engineer should ensure that they maximise and potential revenue for equipment that has been damaged.
  • Completing all related job and service documentation is correctly, with necessary signatures/documents obtained from the customer.
