Job summary

Briggs Equipment is seeking a Field Service Engineer to service, maintain and repair forklift and related equipment at customer sites around Oswestry. You will diagnose faults, carry out repairs and return assets to service quickly and safely, helping maximise uptime for customer operations.

The role requires a technical qualification and prior experience in a similar role, with the ability to work independently under pressure.

Qualifications

  • Must have a relevant technical qualification.
  • Experience in a similar field is desirable.
  • Strong understanding of hydraulic, mechanical and electrical principles.

Responsibilities

  • Attend customer locations to assess scope, priorities, and safety.
  • Liaise with controller and customer on timescales and costs.
  • Identify root causes and source parts cost-effectively with Briggs Technical team when needed.
  • Ensure work complies with engineering standards and Briggs/manufacturer specs.
  • Inspect and test to ensure equipment is safe before handover.
  • Advise customers on any additional work and potential revenue opportunities.
  • Complete all job and service documentation with customer signatures.

The Opportunity: FieldService Engineer

Contract: Permanent

Location: Oswestry

Established in 1986 to sell, hire, service and repair forklift trucks to the North Wales region and now growing to a multi-site operation with bases in Conwy, North Wales and Oswestry in Shropshire; Gwynedd Forklifts are the biggest material handling and powered access company in Wales. As a Field Service Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering exceptional service to our customers through the maintenance, servicing and repair of both customer and Gwynedd-owned equipment. Working on-site, you will assess equipment performance, diagnose faults, carry out repairs, and ensure assets are returned to service quickly, safely and efficiently. Through your engineering expertise and customer-focused approach, you will help maximise equipment uptime and support the continued success of our customers' operations.

The Impact you will have:

  • Attending customer locations to determine the likely scope of the work required, assessing and agreeing with the end user his/her work priorities, ensuring safe working practices are adhered to.
  • Both at outset and as work progresses, liaise with controller and customer on the range of expected work providing clarity and understanding by all parties the likely timescales and associated costs are understood.
  • Identifying the root cause of a breakdown in a timely manner and ensure the correct parts are obtained in the most cost-effective way. Use any available resources to achieve this, including when required the Briggs Technical team
  • Ensuringall work complies with engineering standards and, as relevant, Briggs/manufacturer specification/tolerances.
  • Carrying out inspection/checks on own work as it proceeds and ensuring that the equipment performs satisfactorily and is safe before handing back to the customer.
  • Identifying any further work required on a machine and ensure the customer is made aware of the fact, especially where a cost to the customer is to be incurred. The engineer should ensure that they maximise and potential revenue for equipment that has been damaged.
  • Completingall related job and service documentation is correctly, with necessary signatures/documents obtained from the customer.
