Overview
JOB PURPOSE: To oversee and supervise exams and ensure that guidelines and regulations for the integrity and security of the exam papers and procedures are followed during exam sessions.
Responsibilities
- Set up the exam venue prior to the start of the exam(s), including checking and setting out candidate cards, checking papers and equipment (e.g. calculators for a Maths exam).
- Ensure exams take place in line with the JCQ/Exam Board regulations.
- Collect papers and ensure the exam is completed correctly.
- Complete the necessary administrative tasks required for the secure transfer of exam scripts to the Exams Officer.
- Reader/Scribe duties: read exam questions for students with access arrangements and write exam answers for students with access arrangements.
- Supervise candidates entitled to rest breaks and those who sit their exams out of Hall.
- Support candidates appropriately in line with their individual access arrangements.
General requirements
- Work towards and support the academy vision and objectives outlined in the Academy Improvement Plan.
- Support safeguarding responsibilities and maintain confidentiality, attendance, punctuality, appearance, conduct and professional relations with students, parents/carers and colleagues.
- Adhere to policies and circulars and undertake any other duties commensurate with the grading of the post as directed by the Headteacher.
Qualifications/Training
- Good standard of written and spoken English; good numeracy skills. Training will be provided in Reading for an exam candidate, Scribing for an exam candidate, and JCQ exam guidelines.
Experience
- Proven record of good time-keeping and organisational skills.
Knowledge
- Understanding of the principles of exam procedures.
Skills & Abilities
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral). Self-motivated, able to work on own initiative, and able to prioritise tasks. Ability to work as part of a team. Flexible to changing environments. Highly organised with strong attention to detail. Ability to sit/stand for extended periods (90 minutes+).
Desirable
- Understanding of the exam system at KS4/GCSE and KS5/A-Level. Knowledge of Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE). Experience of working with young people or in a school.
