Job description

Location: Barrow-in-Furness/Filton – Hybrid (2 days a fortnight in Barrow, 1 day a week in Filton, plus regular visits to other UK sites).

Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage an engineering team to deliver the functional design and definition of Electrical Power Systems equipment.
  • Oversee the processes and reviews of technical documentation.
  • Manage associated technical risks, assumptions and dependencies.
  • Provide advice on electrical power technical aspects across a broad range of engineering disciplines.
  • Engage with customers and suppliers to provide solutions to complex problems.
  • Take a leading role by guiding the team through the systems definition process.
  • Provide leadership and mentoring of more junior team members to ensure the necessary capability and skills development.
Qualifications
  • Engineering degree or HND with substantial experience in Electrical Engineering design/development.
  • Experience of design/development of power systems (concept through to detailed design).
  • Significant knowledge of AC and DC electrical power systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Team Leadership experience.
Desirable
  • Knowledge of defence standards.
  • Experience of Marine Electrical Systems.
  • Experience of working with engineering life cycle.

Salary: Up to £61,967 (commensurate with skills and experience). About the Electrical Power Systems Definition team

The Electrical Power Systems Definition team works on the UK's next‑generation SSN design that incorporates technology from the UK, Australia and the United States. You will be part of the Electrical Power team responsible for leading a team of engineers in defining the system elements required to feed into the submarine design and build process, including design documentation, spatial modelling and build outputs. This role will provide you with an opportunity to travel to various locations throughout the UK, including various BAE, customer and supplier sites. We offer relocation support packages across all Submarines roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.
