Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer status (or working towards) is preferred.
  • Strong commercial acumen and the ability to manage design budgets, timelines, and resources effectively.
  • Ability to collaborate with multiple disciplines (civil, electrical, process, etc.) and provide technical and commercial guidance in a multidisciplinary environment.

Murphy is recruiting for an Engineering Manager to join our team and take the lead on a diverse portfolio of infrastructure and non‑infrastructure water schemes, including PMEICA, civils, and subcontractor management, in partnership with Thames Water, as part of the AMP8 programme. Murphy is a long‑standing delivery partner to leading water clients across the UK and Ireland, including Thames Water, Severn Trent, Northern Ireland Water, Yorkshire Water, SES Water, Bristol Water, South East Water, and Uisce Éireann, where we operate over 25 facilities under full DBOM contracts.

Responsibilities
  • Design & Operational/Engineering Leadership: Lead the design and engineering delivery for water and wastewater treatment projects. Oversee all stages of design and delivery, including site surveys, option engineering, outline design, detailed design, construction, commissioning and handover on D&B projects.
  • Cross‑Disciplinary Collaboration: Collaborate closely with civil, process, electrical, ICA, and H&S teams to ensure seamless integration into the overall project. Provide technical guidance and coordinate with both internal and external design and delivery teams.
  • Procurement and Equipment Selection: Fully understand the selection and procurement of mechanical & electrical equipment. Ensure that project programme reflects procurement lead time and programme risks are identified and mitigated.
  • Subconsultant Management: Coordinate and manage subconsultants to ensure their design aligns with project objectives, timelines, and quality standards. Ensure subconsultants meet all contractual requirements and deliverables.
  • Subcontractor Management: Coordinate and manage subcontractors to ensure their scope of work aligns with project scope and objectives, timelines, and quality standards. Ensure subcontractors meet all contractual requirements and deliverables.
  • Site Monitoring and Progress Reviews: Conduct regular site visits to monitor & troubleshoot technical issues, ensuring risks from design / procurement maturity are reflected in delivery strategy. Ensure safety and compliance with client technical standards and scope alignment.
  • Client and Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong client relationships from project commencement through to close‑out. Provide technical support, updates, and advice throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring client objectives and deadlines are met.
  • Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance: Ensure the consistent implementation of health, safety, quality, and environmental procedures in line with Murphy and client‑defined standards. Proactively address any performance, scope, cost, or schedule issues.
  • Project Reporting and Documentation: Prepare detailed project plans, reports, and status updates for clients and internal stakeholders. Highlight key milestones, risks, and mitigation strategies to keep all parties informed. Ensure technical change is managed and reported.
  • Continuous Improvement: Participate in project review meetings and incorporate lessons learned into future projects. Contribute to process improvements across the company, enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of project delivery.
  • Be able to identify key temporary works and lifting requirements at the earliest stage in the project and be able to support the TWC and AP on the project.
  • Monitor supply chain partner and in‑house affiliate delivery to programme commitments and ensure feedback.
Qualifications
  • Degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering or a related discipline.

  • Strong commercial acumen and the ability to manage design budgets, timelines, and resources effectively.
  • Ability to collaborate with multiple disciplines (civil, electrical, process, etc.) and provide technical and commercial guidance in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with a track record of resolving technical issues and managing project changes, for best project outcomes.
  • In‑depth knowledge of health, safety, and environmental standards in construction, particularly in water and wastewater sectors.
  • Proficiency in Information Management systems, and familiarity with design software such as AutoCAD, Revit.
