As a senior clinician, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high quality, patient centred care across all areas of emergency medicine. You will provide visible leadership on the shop floor, guide multidisciplinary teams, and ensure safe, timely decision making in a fast paced and environment. The Emergency Medicine Consultant will provide expert clinical leadership within a busy and diverse Emergency Department, delivering high quality assessment and management for patients presenting with a wide range of acute conditions. You will take responsibility for complex decision making, lead resuscitation and trauma care when required, and ensure safe, effective patient flow throughout the department. As a senior clinician, you will act as a visible presence on the shop floor, offering guidance and support to the multidisciplinary team while maintaining a strong focus on patient safety and timely care.
A key part of the role involves supervising and developing resident doctors, ACPs, nurses, and other clinical staff. You will contribute to their training through direct supervision, teaching sessions, simulation, and workplace based assessments, helping to foster a culture of continuous learning and professional growth. Alongside this, you will participate in the consultant rota, which includes evenings, weekends, and bank holidays, ensuring consistent senior coverage within the department.
You will also play an active role in clinical governance, contributing to incident reviews, audits, risk management, and quality improvement of the Emergency Department and be able to drive and deliver excellence in line with the Trusts vision for future. Each successful candidate is expected to work 10 programmed activities per week.

Main duties of the job
Emergency Medicine sits within the Urgent and Emergency Care (UEC) division which is led by a Divisional Medical Director (DMD) who is supported by the Divisional Director of Operations and the Divisional Director of Nursing. The successful candidates are accountable to the Medical Director. The following are considered to be the main duties and responsibilities of the post holder.
