Job description

Luton & Dunstable and Bedford Hospital Emergency Departments, with some outreach in the community.

Region

East

Luton UA

Are you a flexible, empathetic, and collaborative individual with substantial experience in providing support, advice, advocacy, and effective communication of clients' needs to other professionals?

Do you have a proven record of assessing the needs of vulnerable young people at high risk of harm?

If so, St Giles is seeking an Emergency Department Navigator to join our team. The role involves supporting young people admitted to hospital through to their safe discharge and ensuring access to appropriate long-term support.

In return, we offer a competitive salary, generous leave, staff pension, flexible working, mentoring, counselling services, clinical therapist sessions, life insurance (4x salary), duvet days, season ticket loan, employee perks, eye care vouchers, and more.

About St Giles Trust

An ambitious charity helping people facing adversity to find jobs, housing, and support. We believe that those with lived experience of issues like offending, homelessness, addiction, and gang involvement can drive positive change.

About this opportunity

As part of the ED Navigator team, you will identify and assess young victims of violence, providing holistic assessments, advice, referrals, and support. You will explore innovative ways to support them, reducing their risk of re-victimisation.

You will develop support and risk management plans, promote inter-agency collaboration, and deliver support services, including social and housing support, appointment accompaniment, ETE options, and court appearances.

Building and maintaining relationships with partner agencies, you will close cases efficiently and identify ongoing support referral routes.

What we are looking for

  • Personal or lived experience with the criminal justice system or working with high-risk, vulnerable children, young people, and families
  • Experience working in multi-agency teams
  • Experience in using support plans to enable access to services
  • Experience engaging successfully with challenging young people
  • Relevant qualification or working towards one
  • Knowledge of services for young people and families in the area
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Additional requirements: Successful candidates must undergo an Enhanced DBS check due to contact with vulnerable individuals.

Positions available:

  • Full-time, 35 hours/week
  • Part-time, 21 hours/week

Contract duration: Until 31st March 2026, with flexible days/hours, including some evenings and weekends.

We are committed to equity and inclusion. We welcome applications from all backgrounds, especially from people of the global majority, those who identify as disabled, neurodiverse, or face social barriers. We guarantee to interview disabled applicants meeting the minimum criteria.
