Lead the design. Shape critical infrastructure. Work on your terms.

Design Consultancy Client of Blueprints is seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to take a senior, hands-on role supporting major UK data centre projects.

This is a 6-month contract, offering home-based design delivery, flexible site attendance, and involvement in large-scale, mission-critical developments - including a phased 240MW data centre programme.

The Opportunity

This role is ideal for a senior or lead-level Electrical Design Engineer who enjoys autonomy, technical ownership, and direct client interaction.

You will support:

  • A phased 240MW Data Centre development (Northwest)
  • Data Centre Due Diligence projects (Northeast)

The emphasis is on practical, deliverable electrical design, not management overhead.

What you'll be doing
  • Producing hands-on electrical designs for large-scale data centre projects
  • Ensuring designs comply with current regulations, standards, and building codes
  • Preparing and maintaining accurate technical reports and design documentation
  • Acting as a client-facing technical lead, supporting design decisions and reviews
  • Liaising with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and contractors to ensure efficient project delivery
  • Providing ongoing support during the construction phase, including:
  • Reviewing contractor submissions
  • Resolving design queries
  • Attending site visits and inspections
  • Implementing cost-effective and energy-efficient design solutions, considering:
  • Power usage
  • Lighting
  • Energy conservation
  • Control systems
What we're looking for
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, or a related discipline, preferable with a chartered engineer status, or actively working towards achieving one.
  • Profound experience as an Electrical Design Engineer, or a similar position, developing detailed designs for a range of commercial, industrial, residential, and retail projects.
  • Proficiency in the use of relevant software tools, such as Amtech, Dialux, Relux and AutoCAD, with a technical understanding of Microsoft Office resources.
  • Strong acknowledgment of IES, SBEM and Part L regulations and principles, with an understanding current industry standards, codes, and legislation.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with an ability to work both independently and as a part of a team, and a strong attention to detail.
Working arrangement
  • Primarily home-based design role
  • Occasional site visits across the Northwest and Northeast
  • Site attendance can be flexed around candidate availability and preference
  • Standard working week: 37.5 hours
Contract Details
  • Contract length: 6 month(s)
  • Start date: Immediate (02/02/2026)
  • Outside IR35 (Exempt from Regulations)
Rates

£55- £60 per hour
