Electrical Balance of Plant Technician

Location: East Anglia Offshore Windfarm

Salary: Up to £48,709 (DOE) with up to 10% Annual Bonus and Single Healthcare

The Balance of Plant (BOP) technician - Electrically biased

Will support the day to day operation and maintenance of the windfarm assets (Foundations, Offshore Substation, Onshore Substation, Onsite base Facilities). This shall include preventative and corrective maintenance activities and include onshore and offshore working.

What you’ll be doing

The core duties for a Balance of Plant (BOP) Technician at East Anglia One will be to service, maintain and troubleshoot on all 102 Wind Turbine cranes and Turbine Foundation associated equipment. Wind turbine cranes include the use of electrical, hydraulic and mechanical equipment, Turbine foundations includes Electrical and Mechanical equipment.

Additional BOP duties will include, but not limited to, assisting in maintenance tasks on our generation side Onshore and Offshore substations assisting the HV team and specialist Contractors.

Fault finding and troubleshooting to identify failure cause and determination of corrective action plans, you will assist in retrofit solutions and ideas liaising directly with our Engineering department for support.

Based on the above, a trade skill is preferred in any Electrical, Mechanical or Hydraulic disciplines.

With a preferred background in Renewables Offshore Wind (training will be given to the right candidate), you will possess a strong Health and Safety standard and be willing to always challenge and enforce ScottishPower Renewables high safety culture to all staff and contractors.

Working closely with and helping to manage other Site Contractors, you will be involved with, and contribute with site working process, RAMS and site procedures.

As BOP Technicians will be tasked with minor projects which will contribute to appraisal targets set each year by their Line Manager, you will also assist with HV switching, isolation, earthing under the instruction of the SAP in accordance with ScottishPower Renewables High Voltage Safety Rules when required.

Assisting and performing audits and inspections regularly, you will be required to assist in the execution of the BOP scheduled maintenance plan, inspections and maintenance of BOP spare parts and tools (Onshore).

Additional responsibilities
  • Requesting and processing the necessary permit to work documentation
  • Assist in the picking and checking of Offshore spares and tools to be used in the execution of work
  • Accompany site visitors / HV Technicians and other site staff in site visits, Onshore and Offshore
  • Technicians will require to undergo specific internal and external training courses
Additional development paths within the BOP role
  • Training opportunities to be able to conduct control room operations
  • Further development and training opportunities available in other trade skillsets and disciplines for example Electrical, Mechanical and Hydraulic
  • Training options available around Health and Safety qualifications
