Job description

We have multiple part‑time Domestic Cleaner opportunities available at North Devon District Hospital. As part of our dedicated Sodexo Domestic Services team, you’ll play an essential role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for patients, staff, and visitors. Your work directly contributes to infection prevention and ensures the hospital remains a safe and caring place for everyone.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain a clean, safe and hygienic environment in line with NHS and national standards.
  • Perform routine and ad‑hoc cleaning tasks as scheduled and directed.
  • Empty and dispose of domestic and clinical waste safely.
  • Replenish consumables such as soap, toilet rolls, and paper towels.
  • Use cleaning products and equipment safely and in compliance with COSHH regulations.
  • Work collaboratively with clinical staff and other colleagues to deliver a patient‑focused service.
  • Uphold high standards of customer care, ensuring every interaction supports a positive patient experience.

Essential Requirements
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills and a positive attitude.
  • Physically capable of performing cleaning duties (e.g. pushing trolleys, moving light furniture).

  • High standard of personal hygiene.
Desirable Requirements
  • Previous cleaning experience (ideally in a healthcare setting).
  • NVQ in Healthcare Support Services or equivalent.
  • Understanding of COSHH and infection prevention practices.
