Job Title: Director Scientific Product Development

Catalent’s Nottingham facility focuses on early-stage development of small molecule drug candidates into oral dosage forms specialising in bioavailability enhancing formulations.

The Scientific Product Development department is responsible for the initial technical assessment of new enquiries with Business Development, scoping of the work and providing support to Commercial Operations in the production of quotations. Providing Scientific oversight for the design and development of site project portfolio with regards to drug product formulations, manufacturing processes and associated reports and documentation. Providing guidance, solutions and oversight of the technical discussion and management of technical risks in project meetings and acting as the scientific point of contact for client meetings. Ensuring robust product design and development strategies are executed to ensure successful transfer of products and manufacturing processes into the GMP manufacturing area.

The Role

• Develop and communicate a compelling vision and strategy for the Product Development function aligned with site and divisional goals.

• Provide the strategic roadmap for the scientific services at the Nottingham Facility.

• Provide scientific guidance to the Product Development team; act as the mentor and coach for key Product Development talent, ensuring that Team Leaders, Technical Managers & Technical Specialists receive support in Continued Professional Development

• Setting challenging goals to drive robust scientific solutions to satisfy the client needs whilst improving the overall internal development life cycle management activities

• Support cross-functional collaboration with the Project Management, Manufacturing, QA, and QC to translate scientific concepts into an executable plan.

• Manage the operational budget and expenses for the Scientific Product Development function effectively.

• Constantly strive to develop and support a culture of continuous improvement to improve operations, streamline work processes, maximise effectiveness in regard to development cycle times and improve overall development quality.

• Lead the Catalent Nottingham technical and scientific capabilities on the Site Leadership Team.

• Other duties as assigned.

The Candidate

• Education to degree level or higher in pharmaceutical sciences, chemistry or physical sciences

• Greater than 10 years’ experience in pharmaceutical product design, development and manufacturing

• In-depth understanding of the formulation development of simple and complex oral dosage forms and the supporting analytical methodologies and characterisation techniques.

• Problem-solving skills and ability to facilitate problem-solving

• Risk management skills

• Understanding of regulatory and quality requirements in the markets and the application of ICH guidelines.
