Thisposition will provide valuable experience for a newly qualified Dietitian oran individual wanting to broaden their dietetic skills within a forwardthinking, proactive and supportive Dietetic team. LTHT provides an extensiverange of clinical services and is a regional and national centre for some ofthe countrys more complex conditions.
TheNutrition and Dietetic department at LTHT has an established Band 5 Dietitianrotational programme with positions in Gastroenterology, General Surgery,Oncology, Neurosurgery/Trauma & Related Services, Respiratory & OlderAdults and General medicine & Older Adults. The rotational programme isan excellent opportunity to support and develop your experience across a widevariety of clinical specialisms.
Weare looking for a motivated, enthusiastic Dietitian with excellentcommunication and team working skills, to work as an integral member of ourteam.
Whilstworking as a rotational Band 5 Dietitian you will be supported to manage yourown caseload and to develop your clinical and professional skills. All of therotational roles above offer inpatient opportunities with some of the rolesalso offering opportunities for outpatient experience.
Inaddition to the clinical aspects of your role there will be opportunities tobe involved in departmental and MDT initiatives/ working groups, in theplanning and delivery of nutritional education to health care professionalsand in service development (includingaudits).
Followingthe completion of clinical supervisory skills training you will alsocontribute to dietetic learner placement delivery for A, B and C Dieteticlearners and Apprentice Dietitians.

JOBPURPOSE
Toprovide part of a professional Nutrition and Dietetic care service, whichincludes advice to in-patients, out-patients, all healthcare staff andparticipation in the training of student dietitians
Towork within the Dietetic Service providing effective interventions tospecific clinical areas.
Toprovide a patient focussed service using Dietetic core skills
Thepost holder will be professional accountable to the HCPC and accountablecontractually to their employer and to the law for their actions
3. JOB DIMENSIONS

Manage own case load to a levelagreed with supervisor / line manager
Be involved in the provision ofeducation and training to healthcare staff, patients, care providers andstudents.
Liaise with the multidisciplinarycare team to provide integrated dietetic care
Be an active member of the out ofhours service
KNOWLEDGE,SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
BSc (Hons) Nutrition &Dietetics or equivalent
HCPC Registration as a Dietitian
Willing to undergo any training asrequired to enable performance in the job
Awareness of current issues inDietetic
Good written, oral andinterpersonal communication skills
Able to work within a teamdemonstrate initiative, time management and organisational skills

Demonstrate the ability to analyseclinical and non-clinical information to form accurate nutrition care plans
9. CORE KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
Ability to perform nutritionalassessment and plan relevant dietetic care programmes.
Knowledge of biochemistry,physiology and pharmacology
Understanding of the calculationsrequired in dietetic assessment
Ability to correctly interpretnutritional impairment, biochemical parameters and fluid balance. This willinvolve nutritional diagnosis including interpretation of biochemistry,anthropometrics, clinical condition and diet histories
Demonstrate knowledge ininterpretation of clinical information to develop, monitor and completenutritional care plans. This will include the prescription of dietarytreatment and ACBS products
Demonstrate knowledge andunderstanding of safe discharge planning.
9. PRINCIPAL DUTIES & AREAS OFRESPONSIBILITY
Clinicaland Professional
Be an autonomous practitioner,clinically, legally and professionally responsible for own caseload
Responsible for undertakingdietetic clinical duties in assigned clinical area under the supervision ofthe line manager, following departmental standards and procedures
Collect, analyse and recordrelevant patient information from clinical and patient sources, and considerthese in the development of effective nutritional care plans
Communicate the nutrition anddietary treatment of patients to healthcare staff, other professionals andpatient carers
Responsible for providing relevantdietary advice within an in-patient, out-patient setting in verbal andwritten forms in a format which is understood by patients and carers
Responsible for developing andmaintaining an agreed level of expertise by updating own clinical knowledgeand skills
Participate in the appraisalprocess as an appraise and develop a strategy for personal and continuousprofessional development encompassing a portfolio-based assessment in linewith national legislation
Undertake any other dutiesappropriate to the grade as requested / agreed with the line manager
Educationand training
Devise and implement nutritionalcare plans for inpatients and outpatients. This will involve advisingpatients, relatives or carers, individually or in a group setting
Provide effective oral and writtendietetic advice and information to patients and their carers, to enableachievement of dietary aims.
Assist with the development ofresources used in the education and training of patients, healthprofessionals and the public
Participate in informal talks onnutrition and dietetics to health care staff as required, this may includepresentations at department meetings
Participate in supervising thetraining of dietetic and other students to graduate level as assigned afteran appropriate induction period / supervisory training course
Train ward staff to use dieteticresources appropriately
Managerial
Disseminate Dietetic information toother members of the multidisciplinary team. This could include attendanceand participation in ward rounds and case conferences
Responsible for ordering andcancelling additional snacks, nutritional supplements and feeds from cateringand pharmacy according to patients clinical condition and requirements
Contribute to the planning, settingand monitoring of departmental objects and standards as assigned
Participate in surveys, researchand audit as required / assigned
Participate in the collection ofdata for management information purposes as requested
Organisational
Responsible for liaison withmedical and nursing staff to ensure integrated dietetic care.
Liaise with catering department andpharmacy to ensure the correct provision of meals for patients on therapeuticdiets
Responsible for participating inthe development of a dietetic resource manual as required
Participate in departmental andmultidisciplinary meetings as required
Provide cover for annual leave,sickness, bank holidays etc as required
