Job summary

VWFS UK is seeking a knowledgeable Data Protection Specialist to join our Legal & Compliance Team. You’ll ensure compliance with UK data protection laws, advise senior leaders, support the DPO, manage data breaches, DPIA processes, and liaise with the ICO.

You will drive improvements, work with cross-functional teams, and act as a trusted data protection advisor across the business. This role offers exposure to complex regulatory matters and career development within VWFS UK.

Qualifications

• Proven data protection experience within Compliance/Legal at specialist level.
• Strong understanding of ICO guidance and regulatory expectations for consumer credit or retail banking.
• Ability to manage complex, time-sensitive workloads with precision and professionalism.
• Skilled in researching, analysing, interpreting and presenting regulatory information.
• Comfortable challenging views and interpreting guidance with accuracy and proportionality.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement to influence and negotiate.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert guidance on UK Data Protection laws and regulatory changes.
• Maintain Registers of Processing Activities (ROPA).
• Assist with Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIA).
• Lead the assessment, oversight, and reporting of personal data breaches and MI reporting to senior forums.
• Act as a contact for front-line teams on DSARs, complaints and litigation matters related to data protection.
• Develop and execute second-line monitoring to assess compliance and drive improvements.
• Liaise with the ICO on customer complaints and regulatory enquiries.
• Collaborate with Legal & Compliance and stakeholders to resolve data protection issues.
• Drive continuous improvement to enhance data protection compliance and efficiency.
