Introduction to YSJ university

Situated in the heart of the historic city of York, and with the addition of our London Campus, York St John University has a long and proud tradition as a distinguished higher education provider.

Our success is founded on the quality of academic teaching and research, our thriving campus environments, our professional and pastoral support, and our values of an inclusive, innovative and ambitious community with a strong sense of belonging.

The Team

The Evaluation Team sits within the Student Success & Employability department, part of the wider Directorate of Student Success & Learning Services. The team works with staff across the University working to achieve the targets set out in the Access and Participation Plan (APP) and supporting staff with evaluating interventions designed to enable positive student outcomes.

The Role

This role will work across Academic Schools and Professional Service Directorates, providing a data driven approach to support the cross institutional programme of work to deliver the outcomes of the University’s Access and Participation Plan (APP).

You will play a lead role in compiling and analysing complex datasets in order to provide evidence to determine whether APP activities have had any impact on key measures such as access, continuation, completion, attainment or progression.

You will also take the institutional lead on the co-ordination of the Graduate Outcomes survey, liaising with internal departments and HESA to ensure accurate and timely data collection and analysis.

Required Skills and Experience
  • A good honours degree in a relevant subject area or significant professional experience is essential.
  • You will have high level IT skills, including the ability to use business intelligence tools and relational databases.
  • You will also have experience of working with large statistical data sets, analysing quantitative data, and possess strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are key to the success of this role as you will need to work with colleagues across the University as well present and explain statistical data to non-data specialists.
  • Although an understanding of equality and diversity issues in higher education is desirable, this is not essential.
Place of Work

Agile – This role supports home working; however, the postholder will be expected to attend our York campus for meetings and presentations, potentially on a regular schedule.
