Job summary

Yorkshire Housing is seeking a Housing Officer for a 12-month fixed-term contract covering South and West Yorkshire. The role is field-based, acting as a visible colleague to deliver customer-focused lettings and informed tenancy support.

You will welcome customers, provide pre-tenancy guidance including welfare benefits, and ensure smooth sign-ups. Travel across Yorkshire is required; a DBS check is part of the process.

Qualifications

• Customer obsession with a proven track record of putting customers first and balancing empathy with fair, consistent decision-making.
• Experience across the tenancy lifecycle (lettings, sign-ups, settling-in, tenancy changes, sustainment and endings).
• Ability to triage multiple priorities, plan your day and adapt quickly when things change.
• Clear, kind communication—face to face, by phone and in writing—with the ability to handle difficult conversations professionally.
• Strong partnership working to build relationships with colleagues, local partners and agencies for right outcomes first time.
• Ability to maintain and understand the importance of accurate records and case notes, following policies and SLAs.
• Willingness to travel across Yorkshire for community visits.

Responsibilities

• Welcome new customers with a lettings experience that sets up success.
• Provide pre-tenancy information (including welfare benefits) and promote rent on time.
• Onboard new customers and resolve early issues quickly and fairly.
• Identify vulnerable customers and refer to appropriate support services.
• Spend time in communities, building relationships and gathering insights to shape local plans.
