Job summary

Gloucester City Council is seeking a dedicated Food and Drink Supervisor to oversee the day-to-day operation of the café and wake service at The Arbor, Gloucester Crematorium. You will lead the team, ensure high standards of food presentation, customer care, hygiene and venue management.

This role combines hands-on operational responsibilities with people leadership, administration and compliance, and offers flexible working patterns and generous benefits.

Qualifications

• Experience supervising or managing teams in a busy environment.
• Experience in food preparation and food presentation.
• Experience delivering training and supporting staff development.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to make confident decisions under pressure.
• Good knowledge of health and safety, food hygiene, and risk management.
• The ability to work flexibly and adapt to changing priorities.
• An understanding of alcohol licensing requirements and the supervision of bar service.
• A commitment to delivering high standards and achieving service targets.

Responsibilities

• Supervise the operation of the café and wake service, including opening and closing procedures.
• Lead, motivate and support the food and drink team through training, one-to-one meetings and rota management.
• Ensure food and drink are consistently presented to a high standard.
• Maintain compliance with food hygiene regulations, licensing requirements, and health and safety standards.
• Manage service administration, income records, expenditure monitoring and cash handling procedures.
• Investigate and report maintenance issues, ensuring facilities remain safe and welcoming.
• Handle customer feedback and complaints professionally, resolving issues within agreed timescales.
• Act as a designated Fire Warden and support safe evacuation procedures when required.
• Contribute to service improvements and help achieve income and performance targets.
