Job summary

Balfour Beatty plc is recruiting a Site Based Construction Manager for its Power Transmission & Distribution team to oversee complex projects around Aberdeen. You will support Project Managers to safeguard safety, quality and environmental standards while driving delivery on time and within budget.

The role requires proven site leadership, understanding of contract forms, and the ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders in a busy project environment. A full UK driving licence is essential.

Qualifications

  • Track record of delivering projects to time and budget
  • Experience in similar site-based construction roles
  • Familiarity with standard forms of contract (e.g., NEC, ICE) and commercial processes
  • Demonstrated ability to manage project communications with stakeholders
  • Experience implementing safe systems of work and driving safety improvements
  • Ability to mentor and develop team members
  • Strong verbal and written communications across levels of the organisation
  • Commercially astute with a proactive approach to cost control
  • Holding a full UK driving licence and ability to navigate site locations
  • Degree in Electrical or Civil Engineering is desirable and AP(M) qualification is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Support Project Managers in P&L for standard/major projects while upholding safety, sustainability, and quality
  • Promote collaboration with clients and stakeholders to meet requirements
  • Lead Site/Project Engineers on safety and technical policies
  • Plan work and coordinate materials, plant, and equipment
  • Oversee resource planning and staff management for the project
  • Manage construction site day-to-day, supervise labour, subs and materials, ensure quality control
  • Ensure compliance with standards and liaise with Highways Authorities and utilities
  • Deliver projects on time and on budget by monitoring progress and budgets
  • Review design documents and ensure safe and compliant execution
  • Create and maintain a safe, environmentally compliant working environment

As aConstruction Manager you'll:

What you'll be doing
  • Support the Project Managers in their responsibility for overall profit and loss of a standard or major project whilst ensuring the highest standards of safety, sustainability, environmental and quality are implemented
  • Promote a collaborative working environment which ensures client, internal and other stakeholders’ requirements are effectively managed, and employees feel motivated and engaged to deliver
  • Manage Site Engineers / Project Engineers to ensure that all work undertaken satisfies all required safety and technical policies and procedures
  • Plan the work and oversee the requirements for necessary materials, plant and equipment
  • Oversee the requirements for resource and then manage staff for the project
  • Manage the construction site(s) on a day-to-day basis, including supervising the labour force, monitoring subcontractors, checking materials, inspecting work and overseeing quality control
  • Ensure that all work is carried out according to required standards and be responsible for effective liaison and collaboration with Highways Authorities, Local Authorities and other Utilities providers etc.
  • Ensure the project is delivered on time and on budget by setting benchmarks, agreeing budgets and monitoring progress
  • Check design documents
  • Responsible for a working environment which ensures the achievement of all safety and environmental legislation, engineering and customer standards.
Who we're looking for

The following qualities/experience are essential:

  • Able to demonstrate a track record of project delivery
  • Experience working in a similar role
  • Good understanding of the standard forms of contracts
  • Proficient in commercial/project management communications
  • Experience in implementing safe systems of work
  • Experience in improving current safety systems in support of our safety initiatives - making safety personal
  • Able to communicate effectively both verbal and written with all levels of the organisation
  • Effective team management skills which empower, influence & inspire others to build effective teams.
  • Providing mentoring and support to members of the team where required
  • Commercially astute
  • Full clean UK driving licence
  • Degree Qualified in Electrical/Civil Engineering Discipline -desirable
  • Qualification in APM –desirable
