Job summary

Balfour Beatty Power Transmission & Distribution is recruiting an Assistant Pre-Construction Manager. Based from the Maxim Office in the UK, you will support Early Contractor Involvement and pre-construction activities across major energy projects.

You will work with multidisciplinary teams to ensure robust delivery solutions and governance are in place before construction starts. You will assist with risk management, client communications, and the preparation of governance documents, supporting

Responsibilities

  • Support the Pre-Construction Manager as a key day-to-day contact for allocated projects.
  • Assist in the coordination and delivery of ECI and pre-construction programmes from feasibility through to contract award.
  • Support development of strategies to transition projects from feasibility and ECI through to main construction works.
  • Coordinate governance activities and support projects through the Balfour Beatty gated lifecycle.
  • Work with Bid, Commercial, Planning, Design and Operations teams to develop robust delivery solutions.
  • Prepare client presentations, reports, submissions and governance documentation.
  • Assist with risk identification, mitigation and opportunity management in pre-construction.
  • Support management of project deliverables, programmes and stakeholder engagement.
  • Promote health, safety and sustainability by design principles in project development.
  • Assist mobilisation activities and ensure projects are fit to start before delivery teams.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement, innovation and knowledge sharing across Power T&D.
  • Assist with monthly reporting and communicate key updates to stakeholders.

About the role

Balfour Beatty Power Transmission & Distribution is delivering some of the UK's most significant energy infrastructure projects and is experiencing unprecedented growth as we support the nation's transition to a low-carbon future.

Working with key clients including SSEN Transmission, Scottish Power Transmission and National Grid Electricity Transmission, we are looking for an Assistant Pre-Construction Manager to join our growing team.

Based from our Maxim Office, you'll play a key role in supporting the successful delivery of Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) and pre-construction activities across major infrastructure projects. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to develop their career in project development and pre-construction while working on nationally significant schemes.

As an Assistant Pre-Construction Manager, you'll support projects from the earliest stages of development, through detailed design and governance approvals, right up to the start of construction. You'll work closely with Pre-Construction Managers, operational teams, designers, estimators and clients to ensure projects are well planned, risks are managed, and robust delivery solutions are developed before work begins on site.

What you'll be doing
  • Supporting the Pre-Construction Manager as a key day-to-day contact for allocated projects.
  • Assisting in the coordination and delivery of ECI and pre-construction programmes from feasibility through to contract award.
  • Supporting the development of strategies that successfully transition projects from feasibility and ECI through to main construction works.
  • Coordinating governance activities and supporting projects through the Balfour Beatty Gated Business Lifecycle (DGBL).
  • Working closely with Bid, Commercial, Planning, Design and Operational teams to develop robust delivery solutions.

Who we're looking for

Essential

  • Experience within construction, utilities, engineering or infrastructure environments.

  • Knowledge of power transmission, utilities or major infrastructure projects.
  • Understanding of CDM 2015 and Health & Safety by Design principles.
  • Experience of programme management, planning or estimating processes.Awareness of BIM, 3D design and digital engineering methodologies.
  • Degree or qualification in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.
