Job summary

Balfour Beatty in Dundee is seeking a Project Engineer to join our Power Transmission & Distribution team on a major Overhead Line upgrade project from Tealing to Aylth. You will help deliver engineered solutions and brief the on-site working party.

The role requires coordinating across sites, ensuring safety, cost, and quality, and supporting a thriving team environment. You will lead delivery activities and help strengthen Scotland’s energy infrastructure.

Qualifications

  • HNC/HND/Degree in an electrical or engineering discipline preferable.
  • Able to work across conflicting interest groups to develop solutions.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and able to lead cross-functional teams.

About the role

Join our Power Transmission & Distribution team and play a key role in delivering a major Overhead Line (OHL) upgrade project running from Tealing to Aylth, with a base in Dundee. This is a critical part of Scotland’s energy infrastructure, designed to strengthen the network and support the transition to a low-carbon future.


As a Project Engineer, you’ll be at the heart of a project that spans multiple sites and involves complex engineering challenges. From formalising delivery solutions to briefing and guiding teams on‑site, your work will ensure the successful upgrade of high‑voltage overhead lines that keep communities connected and power flowing across the region.


What you’ll be doing


  • Develop and deliver the engineered solution and brief to the working party

  • Safely and sustainably deliver activity to programme, cost and quality

  • Monitor and record works to ensure compliance in a timely manner

  • Support and develop an environment where the working party can thrive and succeed

  • Effectively manage and care for the people delivering the work


Who we’re looking for


  • HNC/HND/Degree in an electrical or engineering discipline would be preferable and/or relevant Site Experience with the Utilities / Construction Industry

  • Comfortable with ambiguity, able to tease out sensitive issues and lead cross‑functional teams towards solutions.

  • Ability to work across conflicting interest groups to develop solutions to complex operational and commercial problems

  • People Management experience and relationship management skills

  • Commercial awareness with knowledge of both budgetary and Financial control.

  • Knowledge of Project Management methodology.

  • Full UK Driving Licence.

  • Willing to work away from home.
