Job summary

Balfour Beatty plc is recruiting a Project Manager for the Power Transmission & Distribution team in the Peterhead area. You will lead delivery on major projects, manage teams and ensure records, reports and RAMS are up to date, while driving safety and compliance across the project.

You will work in a collaborative environment with flexible working options and a strong focus on career development and delivering the UK energy transition.

Qualifications

  • Experience delivering projects across major infrastructure or energy sectors.
  • Strong understanding of contract forms and commercial communications.
  • Proven ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams and coordinate stakeholders.
  • Experience implementing safe systems of work and RAMS management.

Responsibilities

  • Hold periodic project reviews and maintain project records.
  • Prepare and present internal and external reports to stakeholders.
  • Lead and coach teams to deliver works safely and on time.
  • Interrogate designs and inputs to ensure cost effectiveness and alignment with strategy.
  • Promote zero harm and compliance with legislation.

About the role

Balfour Beatty has a fantastic opportunity for a Project Manager to join our high-performing Power Transmission & Distribution (T&D) team, leading delivery on Major Projects in the Peterhead area


This is a unique chance to be part of a critical infrastructure project supporting the UK’s energy transition — all while working within a collaborative and expert team, where flexible working is embraced and career development is a priority

What you'll be doing
  • Hold periodic project reviews and update the Digital Briefcase
  • Ensure the team maintain accurate project records (progress, daily diaries etc.)
  • Prepare and present both internal/external reports and liaise with stakeholders
  • Aptitude and ability to understand technical answers / explanations
  • Management of teams to ensure works are deliverable
  • Ability to interrogate designs and challenge inputs and deliverables
  • Ensure reports provide relevant information to enable decisions to be made which are informed, cost effective and in line with overall business strategy
  • Ensure a relentless focus on Zero Harm & keep up to date with changes in legislation
  • Accountable for the safety and welfare of the general public, employees and supply chain
  • Carry out Safety & Environmental Tours/promote observation and safety initiatives
  • Lead Accident/Incident Investigations
  • Monitor effectiveness of the H&S Management System and implement improvement actions
  • Review RAMS and accepting subcontractor RAMS
  • Develop H&S plan and ensure it is treated as a live document
  • Ensure sufficiency and competency of workforce
  • Produce plans for the team to achieve goals/aspirations
  • Develop high performing teams, promote a pipeline of talent and assist with internal training through supporting, guiding, motivating and empowering the team. Using the resources available through training, mentoring and performance management.
Who we're looking for
  • Experience of working on a variety of project types
  • Able to demonstrate a track record of project delivery
  • In depth understanding and practical experience of standard forms of contracts
  • Proficient in commercial/project management communications
  • Experience in implementing safe systems of work
  • Able to communicate effectively both verbal and written with all levels of the organisation
  • Communicate new concepts and ideas to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Effective team management skills which empower, influence & inspire others to build effective teams. Providing mentoring and support to members of the team where required
  • Good knowledge of performance evaluation techniques and key metrics
  • Record of a solution-based approach to problem solving
  • Ability to see the business vision and inspire this shared vision amongst the team
  • Discuss ideas and plans competently and with confidence
  • Sponsor and promote project diversity and inclusion
  • Recognise and drive personal development with a learning mindset
  • Member of a professional management body i.e. APM
  • Proficient on O365
  • Holds a current UK driving licence
