Job summary

A leading aerospace manufacturing firm is seeking a skilled CNC Grinder to operate and set CNC grinding machines for precision components. The ideal candidate will have proven experience with CNC grinding, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work under pressure. Job description
Overview

Job Title: CNC Grinder
Location: Yateley
Salary: £18-19 per hour
Contract: Permanent

Responsibilities
  • Set and operate CNC grinding machines (e.g., surface, cylindrical, or universal grinders) to produce precision aerospace components.
  • Utilise pre-prepared process and tooling sheets with existing CNC programs.
  • Perform occasional machine-side program editing to meet specific requirements.
  • Operate conversational programming systems (e.g., Mazatrol or equivalent), with training provided if needed.
  • Ensure programs run effectively to achieve tight tolerances and aerospace specifications.
  • Conduct basic fault finding and maintenance on grinding machines to maintain optimal performance.
  • Adhere to health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Document processes accurately to comply with aerospace quality standards (e.g., AS9100).
  • Support general workshop duties to ensure efficient operation of the grinding section.
Qualifications
  • Proven experience setting and operating CNC grinding machines for precision components.
  • Knowledge of CNC programming, particularly with Fanuc or similar control systems.
  • Strong setting and proving skills for high-precision grinding operations.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Understanding of materials, grinding wheel selection, speeds, feeds, and coolant applications.
  • Proficiency with precision measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, verniers, dial indicators).
  • Ability to work to high levels of complexity and accuracy under pressure.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Familiarity with aerospace quality systems (e.g., NADCAP, AS9100).
  • Experience with conversational programming systems (e.g., Mazatrol).
  • Knowledge of grinding aerospace materials such as composites, steel, or aluminum.
  • Recognisable apprenticeship or equivalent training in precision engineering.
