Job Summary

An opportunity has arisen for two enthusiastic Clinical Psychologists to join the Adult Psychology Service. As part of the Dorset Adult Psychology Service, you will work with other friendly and dedicated psychologists/therapists to provide specialist psychological services for adults CMHTs in Dorset. The role is diverse and allows opportunities to develop your own individual therapy skills, work on service development, continue with your professional development, and work with a range of really skilled professionals who are passionate about working with adults. Clinical work covers a whole range of different problems with which patients may present, as well as skilled and often complex assessments. Consultation and supervision of other professionals from within the OPP team, as well as the wider MDT, is a regular part of our role. Job share considered – both posts are 37.5 hours per week; one is based at Kings Park Hospital, Bournemouth while the other is at various locations across East Dorset.

Main duties of the job
  • Skilled in assessment, formulation, and delivery of highly specialised programmes of care, including psychotherapy, where highly complex facts must be considered.
  • Provide highly specialised advice to clients, families, carers, staff of the community team and other organisations involved in care.
  • Support the Poole, Purbeck, Wimborne, Christchurch and Bournemouth Adult Community Mental Health Teams.
  • Responsible for developing highly specialised programmes of care; judgments involve highly complex facts or situations requiring analysis, interpretation and comparison of options.
Person Specification
Essential Skills & Training
  • Membership of HCPC.
  • Post‑graduate doctorate in clinical psychology (or equivalent accredited by BPS or HCPC).
  • Doctoral‑level knowledge of research design and methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis.
  • Experience of clinical supervision for trainee and assistant clinical psychologists.
  • Knowledge of legislation, white papers, etc. and implications for both clinical practice and professional management in relation to older adults and adults with learning disabilities.
Job Specific Experience
  • Clinical experience with adults with learning disability diagnosis, particularly those in community placements.
  • Experience of assessment and formulation in adults with an LD.
  • Experience and formal training in at least two psychological therapies.
  • Experience in completing specialist assessments such as capacity assessment, dementia assessment, etc.
  • Competent knowledge of neuropsychological testing.
Information Technology
  • Ability to use a computer and Internet for word processing, keeping electronic notes, spreadsheets, presentations, teaching and information seeking purposes.
Additional Criteria
  • Subject to the Equality Act, able to travel using own vehicle on Trust business.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development as required by the BPS and HCPC and working to professional guidelines; must be capable of working on own initiative and acting independently.
  • Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English to a standard which enables the post holder to carry out the full range of duties and responsibilities of the role effectively.
