Overview

Job summary
An enthusiastic registered general nurse is sought to join the Acute Frailty team at Lancaster. This role supports, educates and assists staff to maintain safety and provides high standards of care for frailty patients. Supervision and support to nurses is required to deliver safe and effective care for older patients.

Applicants must have clinical experience caring for acutely unwell frail and medical patients. The post is rotational across days and nights.

Main duties

An exciting opportunity for an experienced nurse to cover in the role of Band 6 Clinical Leader based on the acute frailty unit at Royal Lancaster Infirmary. The post involves involvement in the frailty strategy and delivering safe, high quality patient care in a timely manner. You will be a strong communicator and dedicated team player with leadership skills, able to work autonomously and as part of a team. A solid clinical background is required to safely manage and support the ward team and care for acutely unwell elderly patients. You should bring enthusiasm and energy, using lateral thinking when required.

The post is rotational across days and nights.

About us

We operate from three main hospitals: Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, with community health care premises including Millom Hospital, GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre. FGH and RLI offer General Hospital services, ED, Critical Care, and various consultant-led services. WGH provides General Hospital services plus an Urgent Treatment Centre for non-life-threatening conditions. Local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Education & Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse
  • Recent post-basic clinical qualification in relevant clinical area
  • Mentoring/assessing qualification or teaching qualification e.g City & Guilds, Professional Trainers Certificate

Desirable

  • Recent leadership development or willingness to work towards a leadership qualification
  • ECDL or equivalent

Experience

Essential

  • Recent relevant experience at senior level within the specialty
  • Evidence of clinical competence in the specialty
  • Able to assume a lead clinical role as appropriate
  • Understanding of setting and monitoring standards
