Full Time - 40 hours per week
Urology Department
The department offers comprehensive care for the whole spectrum of Urology services and is split into 5 sub groups:
Guy's Urology Centre is a large, dynamic and innovative urology department which has, as its primary ethos, improvement in patient care. We have developed specialist services in diagnostics, oncology, stone disease, andrology, and incontinence, and have an excellent track record for training surgeons in sub-specialist urology.
For a number of years we have run a successful fellowship programme, preparing surgeons for independent practice in the UK or abroad.
Please note that successful completion of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is our accepted minimum language requirement.
The Andrology Service is well developed, providing a highly specialist tertiary referral practice in all aspects of surgical andrology and genito-urinary reconstruction. Guy's is one of the highest volume penile implant centres in London, managing patients with refractory erectile dysfunction and complex Peyronie's disease, and includes an emergency regional implant service for refractory priapism.
Our team also provides a regional emergency service for all other aspects of andrological care.
Patients are managed in specialist andrology clinics, which include a dedicated andrology MDT with uro‑radiological support.
We also provide a regional service for anterior urethral stricture disease, and run a dedicated specialist urethral clinic and MDT.
The Adult Andrology team also supports the Paediatric Urologists at The Evelina Hospital in managing urethral strictures, and colleagues in the Young Onset Urology (YOU) Team, who provide lifelong care for patients who have been treated for paediatric urological conditions.
Joint multidisciplinary clinics are run with the Guy's Assisted Conception Unit, one of the leading innovators in the field of infertility and the largest and most successful clinic in the UK for preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD).
We provide an advanced microsurgical service for severe male factor infertility, including a regional microTESE service for fertility preservation in cancer patients, including testis cancer patients across the Anglian supra‑regional germ cell tumour network covering 8 million people in East London and the East of England.
The Andrology team runs supra‑regional Joint Sickle Cell/ Urology clinics in conjunction with the Haematology department for patients with recurrent ischaemic priapism.
Monthly 'virtual' clinics are also held with the Genitourinary Medicine department for patients with complex genital disorders.
This fellowship post is looking for a dedicated and visionary individual to join the team, and prepare themselves for consultant practice by helping to deliver the rapidly expanding clinical and academic needs of the service.
It is envisaged that the post will provide outstanding Fellowship training in Surgical Andrology and Reconstruction.
The appointee will join the specialist andrology team consisting of 2 Consultants, a Deanery appointed SpR and an Andrology Clinical Nurse Specialist.
The post will suit a Urologist who desires to become a genuine clinical expert in andrology, infertility and genito‑urinary reconstruction.
The post-holder will also be expected to deliver general and emergency urological care in keeping with the guiding operational principles of the department.
