Job description
Overview

Occupational Therapist role within the Children\'s Integrated Therapies Service (CITS) at CNWL. The service is a multi-therapies team embedded in a multi-disciplinary, community children\'s team, centrally based at the Child Development Centre in Hillingdon with services across the borough. It serves children and young people aged 0-19 with a range of needs, supporting health and development to promote participation in everyday occupations. The service works within school environments in partnership with mainstream schools and SEND colleagues. Pathways ensure MDT working with a whole systems approach and a single story for families.

Responsibilities

As a member of the CITS, you will be an autonomous Occupational Therapist capable of delivering assessment and therapy across a range of community settings (schools, children\'s centres, homes, nurseries and clinics). You will:

  • Demonstrate confidence and competence in assessment and therapy with comprehensive written clinical reasoning in documentation.
  • Work autonomously in diverse settings, maintaining safeguarding of children and young people at all times.
  • Apply knowledge of statutory EHC Plans and SEND guidance; contribute to service development and quality of care.
  • Lead and supervise junior staff, contribute to supervision/training, and support operational management where appropriate.
  • Coordinate care with a broad multidisciplinary team and partner agencies to form a network around the child and family.
  • Develop evidence-informed assessments and interventions and deliver clear, goal-focused care plans.
  • Engage in service development activities and leadership tasks within the team.

Experience and qualifications are divided into Essential and Desirable:

Experience — Essential
  • Relevant extensive paediatric Occupational Therapy experience
  • Experience working as part of a team and supervising students
  • Experience devising and delivering training to patients, parents, carers and professionals
  • Experience of working in community settings and autonomously as a lone practitioner
  • Specialist knowledge of paediatric OT equipment
  • Experience of safeguarding and working with multidisciplinary partners
Experience — Desirable
  • Experience leading service developments/projects and leading on leadership tasks
  • Other relevant leadership or project delivery experience
Education and Qualifications

Essential

  • Recognised Occupational Therapy degree or equivalent
  • HCPC registration
  • Membership of professional bodies (British Association of Occupational Therapists & Royal College of Occupational Therapists)
  • Postgraduate specialist short courses

Desirable

  • Postgraduate qualification in Sensory Integration
  • Attendance at relevant special interest/clinical excellence groups
  • Extensive relevant training
Skills, Knowledge and Aptitudes

Essential

  • Knowledge of assessment tools for paediatric clients and a range of therapeutic interventions
  • Knowledge of SEND reforms and EHCP outcomes; goal setting and care planning
  • Clinical governance, patient safety, quality, audit and patient experience
  • Understanding of multi-agency roles and standard record keeping
  • Reflective practice supported by audits and CPD
  • Strong communication, negotiation, organisational and prioritisation skills

Desirable

  • Experience using electronic records (e.g., SystmOne) and leading clinical audits
Other requirements
  • IT literacy across platforms
  • Car owner/driver (Desirable)
