Job summary

Mitie Group plc. is seeking a Catering Assistant at Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle. You will deliver dining and service excellence, prepare areas, serve meals, and maintain hygiene standards in a busy hospital setting.

Role requires basic food hygiene and health & safety awareness, good numeracy and literacy, and the ability to work both independently and in a team. Training provided for certs if needed.

Qualifications

• Catering experience in a similar environment (desirable).
• Basic Food Hygiene and Health & Safety certificates (training provided if not held).
• Adequate numeracy, literacy, and communication skills.
• Customer service passion; able to work independently and in a team.
• Adaptable, detail‑oriented with strong organisational and time management skills.

• Prepare and maintain dining and service areas, including furniture, trolleys, and cleaning equipment.
• Serve food in correct portions and wash dishes, cutlery, and catering equipment.
• Clean all catering areas daily and follow health and safety standards.
• Handle cash collection, banking, and maintain records and procedures.
• Communicate effectively with customers, managers, and colleagues to deliver excellent service.

We're looking for a Catering Assistant who will deliver excellent service standards, while meeting SLA agreements and adhering to cleaning schedules.

Hours: 32.5 per week
Pay: £21,500 to £22,000 per annum
Location: Cumberland Infirmary, Newtown Road, Carlisle, Cumbria, England, CA2 7HY
