Job summary

Mitie Cleaning & Hygiene Services in Carlisle is seeking a Catering Assistant to deliver excellent service while following SLA agreements and cleaning schedules. You will support dining areas, serve meals, and maintain catering equipment at Cumberland Infirmary.

The role is permanent, full time (32.5 hours per week) with a salary of £21,500 to £22,000 per year. Experience is desirable, basic Food Hygiene and Health & Safety certificates are preferred, and training is provided if not held.

• Previous catering experience in a similar environment (desirable).
• Basic Food Hygiene and Health & Safety certificates (training provided if not held).
• Adequate numeracy, literacy, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain dining and service areas, including furniture, trolleys, and cleaning equipment.
• Serve food in correct portions and wash dishes, cutlery, and catering equipment.
• Clean all catering areas daily and follow health and safety standards.
• Handle cash collection, banking, and maintain records and procedures.
• Communicate effectively with customers, managers, and colleagues to deliver excellent service.
