Location: Pity Me, Durham.
Contract: Up to 22 month fixed term contract or Secondment.
Salary: up to £47,480 per annum depending on experience.
About the role
Are you passionate about the environment and want to use your skills and experience to make a difference? We’re looking for a Catchment Environmental Scientist for our Environment & Sustainability team, to help us develop our data and evidence approach to inform integrated catchment planning and integrated catchment management, and plan actions and investments to meet our regulatory obligations under the Water Industry National Environment Programme (WINEP) and commitments in the NWG Environment Strategy.
In this role you will use your strong understanding of water, land management and catchment challenges and opportunities to assess data and evidence, undertake data analysis and interpret simple models, draw information together to understand our business impact on river water quality and the water environment, and identify future schemes. You will also need to use spatial mapping and analysis using GIS and support the development and application of these tools across the Environment & Sustainability catchment group.
Although the role is office based in the North East, it will support our company-wide activities for both Northumbrian Water and Essex & Suffolk Water. We anticipate cross-company working will be via online meetings. You will be directed in your role by our Strategic and Integrated Catchment Managers, and supported by a number of wider environmental experts in Environment & Sustainability.
About you

You will need to be self-driven and proactive in managing your own workload. The role will be principally office based, and you’ll need to be happy to work alone but as part of a wider team, and you’ll need to be able to communicate your work and ideas effectively to engage with others. You should be very IT literate and familiar with Microsoft Office, statistical packages, and GIS software such as ESRI, as data analysis, reporting and written communication are key to this role.
