Job description

Do you have the vision and drive to help grow our new Haringey Looked After Children CAMHS service? We are looking for a Practitioner Psychologist ready to step into this exciting opportunity to set up a new embedded service in partnership with LB Haringey. The ideal candidate will have CAMHS experience, including knowledge and experience of services embedded in social care settings and/or Looked After Children's services. The Integrated Services team are a group of services embedded in community settings and/or working closely with clinical networks. We offer supportive management, dedicated to ensuring our integrated CAMHS teams remain well held and connected to the wider CAMHS teams.

Main duties of the job

Working in partnership with the Service Lead and our LB Haringey partners, you will lead on the development, implementation and ongoing evaluation of the new service:

  • building on our existing clinical model in place in Enfield, adapting it to suit the Haringey context
  • designing-in ways to ensure the voices of the children and young people the service cares for, and their carers, are central to the approach and clinical practice
  • oversee clinical governance of the team, line managing and supervising the clinical work of a small team
  • facilitating consultation and intervention to professionals, carers and young people, and
  • undertaking audit and evaluation of the model to help us refine and improve the offer and meet service KPIs

Your primary place of work will be at the local authority building in Wood Green (Haringey Council, 48 Station Road, Wood Green, N22 7TR), with requirement to meet carers and young people in the community where clinically indicated. You will also need to attend the Trust base at St. Ann's and other CAMHS sites when required.

In order to meet the needs of the Trust you may be required from time to time to work at different locations to your normal place of work. This may mean that you are required to work at any location that fall under Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey or Islington. Job responsibilities

The post holder will lead the development and provision of the newly commissioned Haringey LAC CAMHS Team.

Coordinating a small team (currently an 8a CAMHS clinician and psychiatrist, but likely to increase as the service develops and matures), the postholder has responsibility for developing, implementing and evaluating the services clinical model appropriate to the context of the embedded CAMHS service. Working with the Service Lead you will support capturing the approach in operational procedures to guide the team.

The Clinical Lead will undertake clinical work and supervision, offering a comprehensive mental health service to children the service cares for offering mental health assessment, therapeutic intervention, and consultation.

They will provide highly specialist mental health assessment and therapy as well as undertaking supervision and consultation to non-clinical colleagues and to other non-professional carers; working autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of CYPMHS and LB Haringey policies and procedures.

The role will include offering clinical supervision, clinical governance, and management oversight to the team. There is requirement to report patient safety and safeguarding incidents, and to contribute to investigation of complaints and clinical incidents.

Liaison with professionals across health, social care, education and youth justice services, and any other relevant community partners is essential. The postholder will be expected to work in highly flexible ways and on an outreach basis in community environments subject to the needs of the young person.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Doctorate in Clinical/Counselling Psychology (or equivalent); AND Registration with the Health Professions Council as a Practitioner Psychologist
  • Evidence of post registration continuing professional development (CPD)
  • Clinical supervision training
  • PHD / doctorate qualification related to clinical practice
  • Trained and accredited in additional therapeutic modality/ assessment skills relevant to the mental health of looked after children (e.g. Systemic approaches, DDP, trauma interventions, ADOS-2)
SKils/ Abilities
  • Ability to contain, explore and formulate an understanding of high levels of distress both directly with patients and indirectly via supervision of other staff.
  • Good IT skills with knowledge of electronic clinical records and Microsoft systems
  • Clinical supervision and appraisal skills
  • Good working, functioning as part of multi-disciplinary team and liaison with external agencies i.e. primary care, education, social and health care.
  • Enhanced biopsychosocial assessment skills
  • Good self-reflective and supporting others in reflection skills

  • Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
Experience & Knowledge
  • At least 2 years post qualification experience at Band 8a or higher in a relevant children / young person mental health setting, e.g. a CAMHS team embedded in Social Care setting, or LAC CAMHS team
  • Experience of providing psychological therapies to children, young people and their families with a wide range of moderate to severe mental health problems in the community, including those in the Care system.
  • Experience of child safeguarding procedures and how these apply in community CAMHS
  • Experience of developing clinical practice
  • Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients' therapeutic care and treatment, both as a clinician and also within the context of a multidisciplinary team/care plan
  • Experience of clinical audits and developing action plans for improvement
  • Understanding of evidence-based practice and the ability to demonstrate how this influences clinical practice
  • Understanding of the policy and legislation issues influencing the work environment.
  • Experience of teaching, training and/or professional and clinical supervision.
